Problem. The modes of a 10 × 6 m steel bay drawn on the floor plan, with HE 200 A columns, IPE 300 beams and a 150 mm concrete slab, are solved with MindFEM and with SAP2000. One of its beams is propped at mid-span, by a chevron brace in the storey below or by a V brace in the storey above. Both programs' modes go through the same footfall calculation, and the SCI P354 and CCIP-016 response factor is compared as well.
Reference document. The reference is the same floor modelled in SAP2000 27.1.0 with its own objects, on a mesh refined to 2×2 shells and 0.1 m frame elements.
Numerical model. The MindFEM model is the app's own mesh, with shell elements at most 0.7 m. The HE 100 A braces are modelled at their full length, pinned at their far ends under SCI P354 and fixed under CCIP-016.
